I'm ashamed to say we bailed to try out the mall, which we also found disappointing. Oh well, with all the class events and the pre-Halloween trick-or-treat activities we ended up with lots of candy as well.KtCallistahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02638889398163267464noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7741993111360468943.post-53058674312254334732011-11-04T11:52:57.139-07:002011-11-04T11:52:57.139-07:00We got an early start on Halloween on Monday, sinc...We got an early start on Halloween on Monday, since the weather at our house was good. My wife stayed home so she could give out candy, and I took my kids and a neighbor boy around the houses.

I forgot there was so much running involved!

But the kids had a great time, and their favorite item this year wasn't candy, but a pen which had flashing LEDs with a skooshball as the eraser! They forgot about the candy long enough for us to squirrel-away the majority of it for a rainy day. ;) Not to worry, they had enough candy anyway.Darryl Papa-senseinoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7741993111360468943.post-65291292735536006812011-10-31T00:16:15.076-07:002011-10-31T00:16:15.076-07:00First of all, I want to thank you, Darryl, for sto...First of all, I want to thank you, Darryl, for stopping by and reading what I have written! It means a lot to me.

I'm very saddened to learn that people feel it necessary to make it even harder for people, especially children, to reach them. I don't know my neighbors very well, but I would like to know them better. Even if we don't have common interests, beliefs, or hobbies, we are brought together by our proximity to each other. They will see my kids and I will see theirs. We have the potential to profoundly influence those kids. This is potentially a good thing for the kids, and something that has been slowly trickling away for longer than I have been alive.

I'm so glad to know that you will have your porch light on as well tonight!KtCallistahttp://papernapkinsontheedgeofinsanity.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7741993111360468943.post-13143916818833140062011-10-27T20:19:39.276-07:002011-10-27T20:19:39.276-07:00I came here from the Parent Hacks mention about us...I came here from the Parent Hacks mention about using pouches from an old leather bag. You both put such an astonishing amount of work into realistic costumes for everyone!

I also appreciate your interest in Halloween as a way to meet and greet your neighbors. That's exactly the attitude I try to instill in our kids as we walk around.

Just today I was disappointed at an "Instructable" in how to DETER kids from coming to your house for trick-or-treating! Somehow just turning off the lights wasn't good enough, he had to put several hours and $$$ into a way to frustrate kids who come to his door.

Thanks for an uplifting post about the value and fun we can find in our community. You made my day! :)

DarrylDarryl Papa-senseinoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7741993111360468943.post-59774428553221900362011-10-22T22:31:52.773-07:002011-10-22T22:31:52.773-07:00Interesting perspective. I turn off my porch light and don't buy any candy, cause as you can imagine with all that activity we're not home all night! We always end up with one or two anyway, after we return, and my kids give away some of their 15 pounds (give or take) of candy they didn't need anyway. And I'm sorry, plastic spiders don't make me feel any better about real spiders :) I still hate them! And I don't laugh when they get thrown at me. I scream! And my kids laugh :) Jeremiah and Angela and especially Josh think my fear of spiders is absolutely hilarious!!! Chloe's with me, she hates spiders! Normally, I'm okay with her fear of all things creepy looking, but have you ever tried driving your kids to school with a 3rd grade girl screaming bloody murder in the backseat of the car cause there's some sort of bug or something flying around and she's sure it's going to eat her? Not fun! And, I think you've heard how my girls can SCREAM!!!!!?Shellie Paparazzohttp://www.spaparazzo.blogspot.com/noreply@blogger.com
