A Mass of Dwarves and The Return to Middle Earth

In case you haven't seen it yet - Peter Jackson has posted his first video blog from the set of The Hobbit.

Can I just say I'm very excited!!!  The Lord of the Ring's Trilogy was just so amazing for my husband and I.  We saw every film opening night in the good theaters two hours away.  Each movie was an event.  We even bought ebay tickets to see Trilogy Tuesday, where we watched all three movies back to back in the theater.  It is probably my single best movie going experience ever!  We met some amazing fans.  I learned to play Apples to Apples with some really great people who came from 6 hours away because their local theater botched the online sales.  Let's just say it was one of those experiences I will not forget.  Also it was the completion of the films that marked the change in our life from newlyweds to parents.

After the films wrapped, we decided that we wouldn't miss anything by finally beginning our family.  A year later our first daughter was born (we watched the Extended Edition Return of the King after we came home from the hospital as the pre-order arrived that week!)  While part of that is tongue in cheek, we were already trying to conceive before Return of the King was released to theaters, it is how our reality worked.  (Ironically, being a life-long Star Wars fan, I did not feel the same way about the prequels.  I did see the first two films on opening night, but I am not sure if I even saw the third one in the theater I think I did, but they just didn't impact the way the Lord of the Rings did).
UPDATE - My loving husband informed me I did not see Star Wars III in the theater, in fact it was out for over a year before we finally rented it.  That makes it the only Star Wars I did not see in the theater, although I wasn't around for the original release of Star Wars in 1977, I did see it in a re-release and for the remastered edition.

Anyway, it's almost two full years until the release of the first half of The Hobbit.  I think my oldest should be able to read the book by then.  We may be able to read it to the other two.  I still may need a sitter though.  I wonder if I can find an overnight, so we can drive up for midnight at the good theater?  Any offers?

  2. Erin - you guys could come with us! But now that's more kids who need to sleep-over somewhere (or more kids to find a person to watch in a hotel room)
