I wrote this as a spec piece for a gaming site, they aren't going to use it (someone beat me to the punch, I think) So I hope you all enjoy it, after the jump.
(In other news, not quite ready to paint, but very close, I hope my parents aren't too mad, I already have to make up to my dad for hurting his feelings by not being more concerned over the phone - see yesterday's post)
The Humble Bundle group is back with the http://www.humblebundle.com/">Humble Indie Bundle 3. Choose your price for 5 games by indie developers and donate part or all of your payment to charity. You decide how much of your payment goes to developers, and each charity.
If you are a puzzle gamer this is a great pack for you. The games feature both 2D and 3D puzzlers where manipulation of objects is the key to solving the levels. Each game promotes it's physics engine, which plays a critical role as you manipulate the reality in which you are presented to solve puzzles or vanquish enemies.
Crayon Physics Deluxe by Kloonigames has you drawing solutions to two-dimensional problems then watching your solutions in action as the drawing comes to life. It uses real world style physics to manipulate the items you draw.
Cogs by Lazy 8 Studios lets you complete machines using cogs. Solve puzzles by manipulating cogs and steam, connecting the various pieces together until the whole works begins to spin. When you have a feel for the mechanics of the game it also offers the option to create your own levels.
VVVVVV by Terry Cavanagh is a platform puzzle game that brings back a minimalist graphics landscape and simply asks you to navigate with the limited options of left, right, and flip gravity. There is some story and a few characters, distinguished mostly by their color.
Hammerfight by Kranx Productions is a break from puzzling into third person fighting. You are a lone warrior forced into the arena to battle. Instead of the standard swords and knives of most fighting games you arm your vehicle with weapons that become powerful while spinning, using centrifugal physics to defeat opponents.
And Yet It Moves by Broken Rules is a three-dimensional puzzle game that takes your two-dimensional puzzle solving skills and pushes them into the third dimension. Manipulate the game by rotating the world in any direction. Obstacles instantly become paths and paths become obstacles as you rotate the world.
Child's Play donates books, games, video games, and toys to sick kids in children's hospitals around North America. Founded in 2003 they have already been able to donate over $7 million to sick kids in over 70 hospitals.
Electronic Frontier Foundation fights to keep free speech free on the internet. They strive for net neutrality and for digital rights.
The games are available for direct download, or through a Steam or Desura account. They all work on Linux, Mac OS X, and Windows, just choose when you download. All the games are DRM free and can be installed multiple times on multiple computers.
Have a puzzle loving friend? Gift codes can be requested on the order screen. A special URL will be emailed to you and you just have to send that to your friend who can download the games at their leasure. There is no time limit associated with the gift URLs so they can be saved to be given for birthdays or other events.
14 days remain to take advantage of this excellent opportunity.
Hey, Callista — I see the submissions you're making (and you are correct in that I beat you to the punch). We tend to mainly take submissions for non-news pieces, but if you want to join the staff and write on a more consistent basis, check out the info here: http://www.gamingangels.com/submissions/
ReplyDeleteThanks Tiffany! I was told to write three pieces, and I'm usually so behind on gaming news I've been struggling with what to write. It was good practice still, and I'll keep trying to find stuff for Gaming Angels. It's a fun group.
